چکیده

Introduction Diesel soot elimination is a very difficult problem. The catalytic filters seems to be one of the technological alternatives in order to trap and burn the soot, at the exhaust gas temperature. In order to advance in a rational catalyst design, the reaction mechanism must be understood. In spite of this need, and even though there are many papers in the field, detailed studies regarding soot combustion mechanism are scarce, and the real kinetic is not typically reported. In most of these works a power-law rate expression was used to fit the experimental data [1].

BaKCo/CeO2 catalysts for diesel soot and NOx abatement

Introduction Soot particles and NOx are the main pollutants from diesel engines. Good alternatives to abate these contaminants are the use of catalytic filters, which burn the soot particles, and NOx traps which adsorb the NOx during normal operation and released them during reduction cycles [1]. We recently studied BaK/CeO2 catalysts for this application[2]. Barium plays the role of NOx adsorb...

Soot Combustion over Nanostructured Ceria with Different Morphologies

In this study, nano-structure ceria with three different morphologies (nanorod, nanoparticle and flake) have been prepared by hydrothermal and solvothermal methods. The ceria samples were deeply characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, H2-TPR, XPS and in-situ DRIFTS, and tested for soot combustion in absence/presence NO atmospheres under loose and tight contact conditions. The prepared ceria samples exh...

The Effect of Sr Addition in Cu- and Fe-Modified CeO2 and ZrO2 Soot Combustion Catalysts

This study investigates the activity of transition and alkaline-earth metal-doped catalysts supported on ceria or zirconia for the NOx-assisted oxidation of diesel particulate. A series of Cuand Fe-impregnated catalysts over CeO2 and ZrO2 supports were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation and characterized by BET, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) experim...

Alumina-Supported Manganese Catalysts for Soot Combustion Prepared by Thermal Decomposition of KMnO4

Alumina-supported manganese catalysts with cryptomelane and/or birnessite structure have been prepared using a simple method based on the thermal decomposition of potassium permanganate. The samples have been characterized by XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC, N2 adsorption at −196 °C, SEM, H2-TPR and XPS, and their catalytic activity for soot combustion has been tested and compared to that of a reference Pt...

Kinetic Parameters of Soot Oxidation Catalyzed by Nanosized ZnO-CeO2 Solids

In the recent decades, the change in the air quality caused by pollutant emissions that are harmful to human health and to the environment has been a subject of an increasing concern. Among these pollutants, particulate emissions arising from the incomplete combustion of diesel deserve a special attention due to many adverse health effects, especially on the respiratory system. In view of this ...
